Mosner Veal & Lamb

Dad always got to work before daybreak to walk the floor and handpick the best meats for every customer order. It's only natural that we follow in his footsteps. Michael & Philip Mosner March 2009

Mosner Group Raised Veal

Healthy, humanely raised veal is demanded more and more by the American consumer whose concern for animal welfare is increasing. Serving the finest food service distributors and retailers for over 50 years, we are proud to supply you with Mosner Group Raised Veal to meet that demand.

Group raised veal has been successfully implemented in Europe for over a decade, where it was developed after crate-raised and tethered veal was banned due to animal welfare concerns. As a leader in the industry, Mosner has been raising 100% of our calves in group housing since 2004. Meanwhile, the U.S. veal industry has agreed to eliminate the use of veal crates by 2017.

Mosner Group Raised evolved from our family's belief in humane calf raising methods. We raise our Holstein calves to be lively and strong, allowing them to engage in natural behaviors, while limiting environmental stress. In our group housing program, the calves move freely and socialize with each other in spacious pens. Herd animals by nature, the calves need this social interaction for a normal, healthy life.

We select only the finest, healthiest calves for our Group Raised program. The animals are fed a milk-replacement formula and are offered grain roughage to allow for more natural development. When market ready, each calf weighs approximately 400-500 pounds. In comparison with other proteins that Americans typically consume, this special-fed veal is one of the most mature proteins when market ready at 22 weeks.
